While a Cintiq 24 can burn a big fat hole in your pocket, XP Pen Artist 24 gets you 90% of the way for a pin sized hole. I am animator, illustrator and film design student of NID, India and I chose this display tablet for following reasons.
Pros:
1. Artist 24's 1440p display is much sharper than other competitive options like Huion Kamvas 22 Plus or XP Pen's own Artist 22 (2nd gen) and Artist 22R pro. All of which are 1080p displays.
2. Color accuracy of Artist 24's display is better than the one found in Artist 24 pro. However, Huion Kamvas 22 plus is slightly better than both of them in this department.
3. The pen that comes with Artist 24 is the PA6 battery free pen. It is good. Has much stable and accurate tracking than XP Pen's own X3 powered styli which improves in initial activation rate, but performs worse in terms of stabilisation.
Cons:
1. Constrast of the display could have been better. Even if gamma levels can be adjusted, i hope the panel used here could be of a little better quality.
2. Display isn't calibrated out of the box. I used my ipad screen to calibrate colors on my display tablet.
3. NO! IT IS NOT A FULLY LAMINATED DISPLAY. The gap between curson and pen is quite noticeable while using something like Lasso tool and thus, affects accuracy. Competitors like Huion provide fully laminated display on their tablets.
4. Drawing surface is just a matt finished plastic film on top of the glass. They could've provided an etched glass surface like Huion and Wacom tablets. Etched glass surfaces are better to draw on and are very durable. This platic film needs replacement every 2-3 years depending on the frequency and type of usage.
